Tessa
June 21
Who’s checking in
Satoshi Ohashi, a high-powered
travel magazine editor, is here to evaluate the hotel. If he approves, they can expect lots of big spenders from Asia. At
the same time, the staff is juggling a couple of drunken louts and a sweet teenage geekboy. Plus, it’s prom season –
and they definitely don’t want to rent a bungalow to a bunch of underage, partying rich kids.
Noises off
Jason tries to talk to Nicole in the moonlight, but they’re
interrupted by a call from her fiancé. He wanders over to the bar, where he finds Tessa and Roy caterwauling to the karaoke
machine way past closing time. He shuts them down. Tessa snarks that he really needs to get laid. Frankie and MJ don’t
disagree. The next morning, Jason finds Tessa passed out in a trashed hotel room. Roy’s long gone. Security throws her
out. Later, Jason finds her by the side of the road and believes her sob story – Roy abandoned her, she has no money,
and she just needs enough for a plane ticket back home. He offers her a job – cleaning up the room she trashed.
Working tension
Jason resolves to clear out all the leftover stuff in his life
from Nicole. Frankie tells him not to give up hope – until Nicole is actually hitched, it’s anybody’s game.
Nicole doesn’t seem receptive – she’s appalled that Jason gave Tessa a job. But she has other problems –
when she tries to smooth the ruffled nerves of a belligerent guest who’s yelling about his missing reservation, she
inadvertently ushers in “hurricane season”. Derrek, the mouthy guest, is underage, has a fake ID, and is planning
a hell of a prom party.
Declare yourself
Charlie, a dorky kid from Minnesota who comes to the Grand
Waimea every summer, tells Gabriel he’s finally ready to tell Hannah, the girl he’s had a crush on for years,
how he feels. When he tries, however, he finds Derrek, the bratty rich boy, who’s all over Hannah. Derrek invites Hannah
to a party he’s throwing in one of the bungalows.
Guest services
Ohashi is a demanding guy – he wants to make sure the
hotels he recommends have impeccable service. He’s not averse to dangling the promise of a good review in hopes of getting
some special consideration – including a private massage in his room. Vincent tells Ohashi he’s not going to be
his pimp. Ohashi does not look pleased.
The dating game
MJ and Chris have hit it off, leading to a heavy make-out session
in the storage shed. Tessa sees MJ leaving, and a flustered MJ invited her to lunch. MJ tells Tessa about the open assistant
concierge position. To return the favor, Tessa warns MJ to be careful around smooth-talking, good-looking guys like Chris,
which wigs MK out. She resolves to avoid Chris. Tessa may be thinking of her own man, the nefarious Roy, who seems to be stalking
her. The two of them have been pulling cons across the island, and he sees no reason they should stop. Tessa tells him to
bug off.
Party central
At the party, Derrek gropes Hannah, who tries to get away. Charlie
comes to her rescue, prompting Gabriel to come to his rescue. Hannah and Charlie scamper off and finally get together. Jason
and Nicole break up the party and rescue a kid who’d OD’d. Nicole confesses to renting the bungalow. Ohashi is
pissed about the loud party, and he lets Vincent know. Vincent tells Jason to fire whoever rented the bungalow to the kid.
Jason tells Vincent he’s the one who made the mistake. Vincent knows he’s covering for someone, but lets it slide.
Guest relations, part 2
Tessa turns up for turndown service, overhears Ohashi’s
complaints, spots some cigar groupie magazines, and takes charge. She steals a guest’s dress, procures some rare cigars,
claims to be the new assistant concierge, and charms the pants off Ohashi – without actually getting naked. This display
of service prompts Ohashi to give the hotel his seal of approval. Jason reluctantly agrees to give Tessa the job. She’s
thrilled – and so is Roy, who seems to think this is all a way to run more scams. Another potentially touching conversation
between Nicole and Jason is interrupted by her fiancé, and Jason looks like he’s ready to give up. Not so Chris –
he tells MJ he thinks she’s swell, and he’s willing to take their relationship at whatever speed she wants.
